Welll I made it! After 12 hours of being on a plane and 20 hours overall of traveling I am in my flat in Leeds! Besides the length of my travels there was nothing tragic or horrific that happened. My parents used their frequent flier miles to book my flights so I got to fly first class the whole way! Now this was my first time flying first class and let me just say it is going to be VERY difficult to go back to coach. My flight from Phoenix to Philadelphia (5 hours) was lovely, I got to the airport early enough to take advantage of the first class lounge which had lots of businessmen and women in overly priced clothes, but also had free food and drinks! My flight was uncomplicated-no delays, problems, or anything worth talking about...except for the FOOD! The food was amazing, especially for a domestic flight! They had cheese tortellini with arrabbiata sauce (spicy) with pesto and spinach on top. Then they served caprese and caesar salad. By the time desert came I was stuffed so I did not have any, but it was a lemon cake that looked quite delicious. (Sorry mom, no pictures of these)
For my two hour layover in Philadelphia I hung out in the lounge with more businessmen and women in fancy clothes. Now I thought first class to Philadelphia was nice....until I got on my plane for Manchester (7 hour flight). I had a chair that reclined fully and it was as if I was in my own little cubicle with my own TV, equipped with over 50 different movies to watch. And the food was even BETTER! I uploaded pictures with descriptions from the menu below. After dinner I got about 2 hours of sleep and then woke up and watched Harry Potter 7 Part 2 so I could work on my British accent a little bit more before I landed. After we landed I got through customs with no problems and met up with the international welcome service, then took a 1 hour taxi to Leeds. I was planning on unpacking and getting settled but I just want to relax, so I decided to update my blog!
To start: Warm mixed nuts with Domaine Lafage 2009 Vin de pays des Cotes Catalnes
Main Course: Top Left-Fresh seasonal greens garnished with cherry tomatoes, walnuts, and shaved parmesan cheese. On side is honey Dijon dressing. Bottom Left: Chilled Prawns with a bell pepper salad and sweet Thai chili sauce. Bottom Right: Roasted Breast of Chicken stuffed with mushrooms served with pomodoro sauce , white wine risotto and vegetable medley. Wine: Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone.
Clearly, I did not enjoy the food
Desert: Good ol' fashioned Ben & Jerrys!
Breakfast: Fresh Fruit Bowl with seasonal fresh fruits, served with yogurt and granola. And a much needed cup of coffee.
My first view of the UK! Flying into Manchester
My room
The toilet, sink, and shower are all in a tiny room together, but at least I don't have to share!
My attempt to take a picture of the shower
Thanks for reading this semi-long post for such a short amount of information, i'll update again when i unpack and finish my room!
