Things I have learned in my 30 hours of being in the United Kingdom

Things I have learned so far:

1. The English walk on the left side of the street just like they drive.  I have almost run into people many times because I move to the right side of the sidewalk out of habit, and we head directly towards one another.
2.  This exchange rate is going to kill me.  From buying simple household necessities and groceries I can already tell it will take some getting used to.
3.  Leeds is a student's city. My flatmates told me that Leeds is home to three major universities in the heart of the city; Leeds Metropolitan University, Leeds University, and Leeds City College.  When school is not in session, the city is dead apparently.  I found this very interesting!
4. The UK uses different voltage systems than the US, so even if you have an outlet converter you need to check the voltage. Within 2 hours of being here I blew out all of the electrical outlets in my room and the room next to mine because I tried to use my hairdryer without an adapter (woops), so I was out a hairdryer and didn't have outlet usage in my room for 24 hours.
5. Driving on the left side of the road means you need to look right before you cross the street.  The drivers here are INSANE! I haven't ridden the bus yet but my friend Stacia told me it is like the Knight bus from Harry Potter.  Whenever I cross the street, I have to look from right to left until I safely cross. They are insane over here!

The only reason I've had time to update this twice since I've been here is because we haven't had too much required events to do, and the Jet Lag is killing me.  I got 13 hours of sleep last night but woke up tired still. I'm trying to keep myself busy during the day but then nap for a little before I do anything at night. I am about to go watch the Barcelona football game at a pub with my flatmate from Spain and some other international students and then this weekend is filled with activities for us, including a free trip to York on Sunday!
